Why should I pursue early childhood music education for my child?

Music awakens and stimulates neural pathways in the brain that are associated with higher forms of intelligence, such as abstract thinking, empathy, mathematics and science.  Music's melodic and rhythmic patterns provide exercise for the brain and help develop memory.  Remember singing the ABC song to learn your ABC's?  Studying music helps children establish good listening habits, which are essential for achievement in school.  Overall, music activities are perfect for child development.  Music immerses the child in language, evokes movement, stimulates the brain and fosters physical coordination – all in a group setting that builds community – a holistic experience.

How long do the classes last each week?

All classes ate 45 minutes per session.

Should Parents or Caregivers attend and participate in the classes?

Absolutely!  The most important thing in class is adult participation.  Children learn by your example so adult participation is an integral part of class in the younger years.  We also provide parents and caregivers with wonderful materials that you can take home to re-enforce the learning that we did in class.

Why do the students get Home Materials? Are we supposed to practice at home?

Children learn by repetition.  Repetition is very important in order for children to feel familiar with the songs and activities so that they may feel comfortable in class and proper progression.  We ask parents and caregivers to listen to your CD's and learn the words and activities so that your child can maximize the learning experience.  Children and parents can have so much fun at home and in the car with the songs and dances provided upon enrolment with us.  In class you learn the songs, but at home is where you really have fun with the songs and dances.  It's great family bonding time. Try it and you won't have to ask this question ever again!

Does Priscilla's Musik'n'Motion today better prepare students for piano, violin or other music lessons in the future?

In most cases, absolutely!  Our classes develop the student’s aural senses more than other pre-instrumental methods.  Because we teach children to appreciate music at an early stage of life, they will be less likely to become uninterested in music later.  We like to say that we nourish the love of music inside every child!

Do you have to aspire to learn a musical instrument to take this class?

Absolutely not, but research shows music and movement greatly benefits children in other areas such as mathematics and areas of general education.  Children also become better listeners and gain  much confidence within themselves.

What if I can't make it one week due to a vacation or other conflict?

Please let us know as soon as you know.  That way we can work on a make up class to accommodate your needs while keeping your child's progress with music and movement on track.

As my child gets older there seem to be more and more activities for him/her to do?  Why should I continue with music and movement training?

After being in the program for a while, you can see the benefits your child is getting from class.  It is our view that the singing, dancing and playing (in class and at home) is the best for your child's holistic development: language, movement, math skills, and physical coordination – all in a group setting that builds community.
