Our Vision

Priscilla's Musik'n'Motion is committed to providing high quality early childhood music and movement education to children, parents, and caregivers in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment.  Research and experience tell us that the earlier a child is in an environment of active music-making, the more likely that child’s inborn musicality will be awakened and developed.  We surround children with vocals, music and musical instruments and give them the opportunity to participate actively in a musical environment where they learn to make music both freely and naturally.

 

Beliefs and Approach

Children are naturally observing and absorbing every facet of their environment.  This natural ability to learn can be enhanced by creating an environment that addresses the child’s basic developmental needs of movement, exploration, sensory–motor experience, and language with stimulating activities that require their involvement.

Children are naturally drawn to music - from four months after conception while still in the womb they have been listening to the rhythm and melody of their mother's voice!   Music immerses the child in language, evokes movement, stimulates the brain, and fosters physical coordination. 

Research has shown that we are all born with an aptitude for music, but that aptitude diminishes if it is not actively nurtured between the ages of birth and nine.  The age appropriate classes offered at Priscilla's Musik'n'Motion are designed to nurture the child’s musical aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities which help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop a rhythmic body through which music can be expressed.

Our programs are not about simply entertaining children.  We are about creating an environment where age appropriate, sensory-based musical activities become the foundation for stimulating and developing fundamental skills.  We emphasize active, thoughtful participation - not entertainment. We emphasize movement - not visual stimulation.  We are unique in these respects.  Research documents that kids today are over-stimulated visually and need purposeful movement and music training now more than ever. 

We achieve this with the use of language, movement, rhythm and melody in a fun, supportive, social setting.  The outcomes are diverse with benefits to the children that extend throughout their growing years.

Children receive an excellent foundation for future musical pursuits.  In addition, the family as a whole receives tools for building precious relationships together while having fun in the classroom and at home.
